What is one SUCCESS and one CHALLENGE that you had this week?

  1. Regarding challenge, I am still finding it challenging motivating the majority of my period 3 LTEL class to do their A.R reading. I will continue to explore creative ways. A positive this week was when one of my students was answering text dependent questions on the online English StudySync program; he was not quite finished, and I told him that we would have time during the next period. He then asked if he was able to access the questions, at home, and I said that he was, and he got real excited and said he would do them at home. I thought the initiative was pretty cool.

  2. My girl periods have been loving the online textbooks. I have found that the girls are engaged and I am already seeing the benefits of having an online textbook. The boys on the other hand struggle with staying on task. Instead of using their online textbooks, some students will go on different websites look for memes or gifs.

  3. Challenge: Getting my students to identify data necessary to answer a scientific question

Success: Students being able to identify evidence for energy transfer

  4. One success we had this week was implementing a full on writing task and kagan activity in each instructional plan. One weakness we had was trying to juggle the different 8th grade events to keep flow for our curriculum development.

  5. One success I had this week was that my lesson on HIV Transmission improved this year compared to last year. It improved because I was able to focus a little more on the language objective. The students used compound sentences in their explanation.
A challenge I had this week ( a consistent challenge actually) is to motivate some of my boys to do their work and to make sure they are focusing in class.

  6. My one success has been to get a hang off the beginning instrument classes. They are running rather smoothly. The smoothest in my time here.

My one challenge is to get the advance students to practice!

    GO DODGERS!

    1. I like that soccer team as well, they can really score touchdowns. Great team.

  7. I was able to get two IEP's that where over-due to parents postponing them.

  8. This week I have had some success with reward systems that I have been using with challenging students, including working for a small reward or some choice time. Today was the first day that a particular student stayed in the class the entire period!

A challenge this week has been getting calls to cover other classes during my time in the classroom and my conference. It makes it so difficult to get tasks done and track minutes for RSP students!!

  9. Got a new student in advisory that is a handful around school, feels this happens every year, little by little I get many of the interesting kids, and so, this week I have him. I am trying to work with him, so, let's hope he improves his attitude. Success, kids I thought weren't going to do well during a test, did better than the rest, so that was a good thing.

  10. One success that I had this past week was getting two of my 8th grade students to finally dress for PE. The challenge is now getting them to bring their PE binder and turn in their Homework.

  11. A small/big success for me would be getting 98% of my students to submit their homework/classwork on StudySync. It was a challenge a week ago having as little as 8% of students submitting their work.

  12. Challenge: Preparing the students for testing.
    Success: Reclassification of students.

  13. One success this week was re-trying Rally Table with generic rectangles since the boys really seemed to be into it.

One challenge is dealing with 6th graders who are truant to class and it seems the number is increasing as I see them walking around the hallways.

  14. One success this week was with my advisory class and the pennies for patients campaign. I am so proud of my class and the effort they put into collecting funds for others :) One challenge this week with this same advisory class is motivating them to read more books for AR and complete ALEKS topics each week.

  15. One success this week has been students talking about how they are taking the science we have been learning in the classroom, and bringing it home to further their experimentation and learning. A challenge has been the state of the 3rd floor hallway, where students are free to eat candy, be out of uniform, run, push, shove each other, be tardy, and ditch class without any consequences.

    1. Yes, I've seen students roaming the hallways a lot this week. It's been very distracting when they knock on your door several times when I'm trying to teach.

  16. One challenge that I experienced this week was to have my students meet their aleks and ar goals. One success that I had was to win the penny challenge. My advisory girls showed so much pride and determination and never gave up.

  17. One success was getting a 100% Study Sync completion during my period 4. One challenge was aligning lessons in my ESL class due to the heterogeneity of their English levels.

  18. One Success - Found the missing math textbooks in Spanish.
One Challenge - Trying to locate and obtain History Alive! consumables.

  19. One success I had this week was signing students up for Newsela.com and having students browse articles about the election. This site was completely free and allows students access to tons of articles, both primary and secondary sources. The articles are written in varying reading levels and also includes Spanish translation. I'm excited to start using this resource in covering the upcoming election. A challenge I have this year is with one particular student that has an IEP, a lot of interventions that I have been using such as seat change, parent conference, behavior chart, talking to counselors, etc has not been very effective yet.

  20. My challenge is ignoring the disruption that leaks into my class if I let my door stay open. The students easily get distracted. My success so far 8th graders have engineered their roller coasters/marble track/race track for tryouts.

  21. The successes I have are StudySync on line with the students. Challenges are certain 8th graders who have been used to doing absolutely nothing in their English classes for the past years and wish to do the same this year. They even claim that they retired 2 English Teachers, and they asked me if I'm ready to retire now. Like I said: I'm unbreakable, they will break themselves by failing my class which may result in 5 years in High School.

  22. Success:: Im gonna go with last week because it's only Tuesday. Last week 7th grade intramurals went really well . The 7th grade boys team is really competitive and I enjoyed their cheers.

Challenges: yesterday another girl mentioned something during circle I had to report. I hate when I have to break their trust when they share personal things.

  23. Over the past 2 days I have had tremendous success with students running the mile. Many students are earning A's and B's, but more importantly I have seen tremendous progress from the students I had last year. The one challenge I am having is with the conditions on the field. There have been days where the field has been soaked, pockets of mud have been formed, and the field has been almost unsafe. The challenge is getting students to play hard, but also keep safe with the conditions on the field.

  24. One Success I had this week was having mini conferences with my advisory girls. I teach half of them in math, and I was able to get the other grades from Ms. Mendez and give my girls and update/suggestions for how to improve their math grade. It's one class but I hope that this will model what they should be doing for their other classes.

One challenge I am tackling is keeping Students accountable ( those who are missing multiple HW assignments). I am strategizing on the best times to do this.

  25. One success: Having a fellow YOKA teacher observe me and stated that saw good behavior of my struggling girl class.

Challenge: Getting 100% of my students to finish their initial ALEKS knowledge assessment: Kevin Zuniga, Luis Rodriguez and Roxana Cruz have not completed their Initial assessment which means have completed ZERO learned topics.

    ReplyDelete
  26. One success: One of my boys from 2nd period said today " I really learned something today!" Now they learn something all the time, however, it was quiet because there are no disruptions in class.

One Challenge: Getting in touch with parents when you leave a message and do not get a call/text back.

    ReplyDelete
  27. one success: There’s a student in my 6th period who has had a very difficult time focusing on their work and was constantly talking. But I changed his seat and now his work and behavior have drastically improved. He is now focused and works well with his partner.

one challenge: In that same class I have a student who is behind in their work and constantly is out of their seat, despite making parent phone calls about his behavior.

  28. Behaviors and not taking them personally is always a challenge. Successes this week are some of our SDC students transitioning to gen ed classes!!
