We have had many field trips over the past weeks. What has gone well? What could we improve on? What would we do differently next time? What advice could we give to our 6th grade sponsors who go later this week?
7th grade field trip to Science Center went super well because it was very well organized by Ms. Vega, Ms. Mendez, and Ms. Wester. Big props to them!!!
We are in the planning stages of the field trip. We learned about all the small things that are necessary to take care of for a field trip. I think it will go well. Any suggestions will be great! Ferrel
I think what went well for the 7th grade field trip is that it was organized really well (special shout out to Ms. Mendez, Ms. Vega and Ms. Wester). Keeping the groups smaller with more chaperones was also very helpful. And as always, communication about all the logistics was crucial to the success of the field trip.
The STEM Lab field trip to Cal Poly Pomona also went well. I liked how it was a smaller group so it was easily manageable.
Although we get lists of students that are going on the trips, I still find completing attendance a little tricky. Students who are supposed to be on a trip are absent sometimes, or I will have classes where all but one student are off campus. Not sure how we can better streamline class attendance with students who are on a field trips. When I had a sub last week, he marked an entire class absent, when in fact they were on a field trip.
I think getting parents involved and having plenty of adults to help divide up the work during the field trip. I think also sharing clear exception with the students prior to the trip and making sure that there will be a follow up for students that don't follow the exception. Also having great teachers organizing the trip and getting everything ready before the actual field trip.
The field trips have been very well calendared and spaced. The YOKA Team of Teachers have done an amazing job organizing and planning these trips, providing students rich opportunities to extend their learning outside of campus.
The pre-planning that was done for the 7th graders by Ms. Mendez, Ms. Vega, and Mrs. Wester proved to be invaluable. They organized and structured the trip, established expectations for the students, and delegated responsibility. The time that was given to us before hand to discuss and plan as a group was extremely useful as well.
The field went smoothly and the preplanning with the teachers, I feel really helped to outline the structure and expectations. I can personally say that with my group the field trip went without a hitch and all the students were engaged, behaved and had a great time. The trip really allowed for me as a teacher to get to know my students on a more personal level, which always translate well in the classroom.
The field trip to the science center went great! It was well organized and the kids seemed to have fun. Having communication between the busses was also very helpful.
The 8th grade field trip was very well organized. We had no major incidents because the students seemed to understand the expectations placed on them. There was some confusion in the morning about backpacks and uniforms, so perhaps announce before the day of that all students are expected to leave backpacks and non uniform sweaters in the lockers.
Ms. Lugo made a great ppt that covers what the expectations are and how student should behave at the field trip. Questions were answered and students seem to understand their responsibilities.
I think splitting the field trips to two days is the way to go! We had no behavior issues. ^_^ 2-3 lead teachers organizing works. And small groups - lots of parent volunteers. Thank you team!
Our six grade students have not gone yet, but I am hopeful that things will go well. Last year we had a fairly productive trip, but the challenge was that I did not know many of the students who were assigned to me. This year, I think we are making sure we are in charge of students that we know, so again I am hopeful that we will have a great time.
The 7th grade field trip went well but Ms. Vega & I are reflecting to keep improving. We had more than enough chaperones and had our 7th grade teachers willing to step up and help with carrying lunch & distributing lunch, manage their group, etc. The powerpoint with a timeline and pictures is available to share on google drive. Thank you Ms. Vega for her positive and creative collaboration and spending a great deal of time making phone calls and putting folder packets for the chaperones. Also a shout out to Mr. Ramos for telling me the nifty features of MISIS which was how I was able to track his students going to my field trip. Thanks for Ms. Vega for informing me we are able to download any teacher roster which came in handy to help Mr. Wong for lunches and help Wester figuring out coverage. Really I was very appreciative of all our 7th grade teachers that went to the field trip.
I enjoyed the field trip to the Science Center with the 7th Graders, I attribute that to the level of organization(shout out to Ms. Vega, Ms. Mendez, and Ms. Wester). My advice would be to try to relax and enjoy the trip with the students.
The organization of our trip was great. However, the one thing we could improve on is the waste of lunches in all of our fieldtrip. Is there a way of having lunch be an option in our fieldtrip slips for students to mark. We had 4 boxes full of lunches untouched. Due to students NOT wanting the food.
I think it went well. No major incidents or disciplinary problems.

From last year my field trips have gone smoother. I have had enough supervision for all of my students.
