  1. Strengths: We have a diverse population and offers many extracurricular activities afterschool. We also have electives that other schools have lost, ie music.

weaknesses: We have large class sizes. Our hallways are very crowded.

  2. Strengths: Beyond the bell, tech resources, after school tutoring, ALEKS/AR, interesting electives

Weaknesses: Student accountability/discipline, choice in academics, few clubs, no student leadership

    1. Great points, Ms. Boyan. I would echo that student accountability/discipline is an area where we can improve. I also wish we had more choice in academics and clubs.

    2. I wonder how we could create more clubs. Any ideas? I know Ms. Roesner has been working with an 8th grade leadership team but I think your point of lack of student leadership is something we should think about and fix. Good idea going into next year.

  3. Diverse student population, great attendance, and dedicated faculty are strengths.
Weaknesses: I agree that large class size is a big weakness, particularly if we consider the needs of our students. Another huge weakness is the (in general) weak parent support our students get.

  4. Activities for the kids during lunch, many schools offer sports during lunch and kids enjoy that, being able to use OUR lunch time to help kids who have questions with homework, or even just a place to hang out and eat lunch. This year the way the testing has been thrown at us has very much interfered with planning and teaching. For example periodic assessment 2 wasn't due til may, but we had to rush and ready for that, and so, it meant dropping all our lessons, all our planning so that we could squeeze that in. From admin i would say liftning morale, morale is not always so high.

    1. I agree with you regarding some of your lunch time activities. Good idea to brainstorm some more on. Thanks for sharing it.

  5. I agree with Ms. Gamez, we do offer a great number of engaging activities both during and after school. We also have an active parent volunteer group. We offer our parents many opportunities to learn and share their thoughts.

I think a weakness would be our effective use of advisory.

  6. Strengths: We are a unique school in a unique area, offering many opportunities that other schools do not have. (THANK YOU GAMEZ!)
Weakness: We are a small school that can't separate certain individuals from their peers in order to have a more productive learning environment.

  7. Strengths: I believe AR and Aleks are two very strong and beneficial school elements. Electives and extracurricular activities also make a huge difference. Students are happy in this school

Weaknesses: our classes can be quite large in size.

  8. A lot of parents are actively involved in the education of their children. We have a wonderful Parent Center that gives mothers, fathers, and guardians opportunities to contribute to and to gain from the YOKA community. It's easy to ignore this strength--perhaps because of the language barrier that some teachers face. And because the parents are so involved, we have a number of extraordinary students who are eager to take advantage of all YOKA has to offer. That includes an terrific cyberlibrary, STEAM Lab, music classes and tutoring, as well as the after-school program. One weakness, not confined to this LAUSD location, is discipline. Maybe that's just the way it has to be as we try not to overdo it with suspensions and transfers.

  10. Our strengths are that we have an excellent staff, lots of technology, busy library, AR & ALEKS, awesome parent center/volunteers, and great after school programs for kids. I wish we had more teachers, teacher aides, out of the classroom staff, and a library aide to help us meet all of our goals.
